Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri shared that he relied on his ‘instinct’ during the penalty shootout against Birmingham City.
Daniel Farke’s team secured a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup by winning on penalties. Leeds initially took the lead with a goal from Lukas Ncmecha, but Birmingham equalized in the 89th minute thanks to Patrick Roberts, leading to extra time and penalties.
During the shootout, Perri saved a shot from Tommy Doyle, while Roberts missed his chance by shooting over the bar. This gave Sean Longstaff the opportunity to score the winning penalty for Leeds.
The victory marks continued progress for Leeds under Farke, as they have only lost once in seven matches across all competitions.
In an interview with TNT Sports, Perri highlighted the determination of his teammates and explained that he couldn’t rely on pre-game penalty strategies during the shootout.

“It was an impressive effort from the team. We faced a tough game against Birmingham, so congratulations to everyone for their hard work in reaching the next round,” he said.
“We had video analysis on Birmingham’s penalty takers, but I couldn’t see the numbers on their shirts for the first two kicks. For the third one, I wasn’t sure where he would shoot, so I went with my instinct, and I’m glad I could help the team.”
