Manchester United is back in action after a nearly two-week break, visiting Merseyside on Monday night to take on Everton as they aim to maintain their top-four status.

Under interim manager Michael Carrick, United is experiencing a resurgence, currently unbeaten in their last nine matches—their best streak since 2021. They are level on points with Chelsea and the only Premier League team yet to lose in 2026. However, their last match ended in a disappointing 1–1 draw against West Ham, a result Carrick will want to improve upon against Everton’s strong defense.

Everton holds the 11th position in the league and hopes to achieve a rare league double over United for the first time since the 2013–14 season. They managed a 1–0 win at Old Trafford in November but are looking to bounce back from a recent 2–1 loss to Bournemouth. With a five-point gap to the European spots, Everton needs a significant win at their home ground, the Hill Dickinson Stadium, to revive their season.

Team News

Everton

Everton welcomes back Seamus Coleman, who is fit to play at right-back for the first time since late January. Jake O’Brien is suspended after receiving a red card against Bournemouth, and Jack Grealish remains out with a foot injury. David Moyes is hopeful that the 13-day break has helped Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gana Gueye regain their form after the Africa Cup of Nations.

Manchester United

Michael Carrick continues to be without Patrick Dorgu, who is recovering from a muscle injury sustained in January. Mason Mount is nearing a comeback, but the club is being cautious with his return. Matthijs de Ligt is also progressing with a back issue but is slightly behind Mount. The rest of the squad is in good shape after a rare midweek break.

Form

Everton

Everton has a solid mid-table position under David Moyes, thanks to their strong defense, ranking among the top five for fewest goals conceded. However, they recently lost 2–1 to Bournemouth, marking their fifth defeat in nine home games. They average only 3.3 shots on target per match. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall looks to make history by being the first English player since 1979 to score home and away against United in a single season.

Manchester United

United leads the division in offensive aggression, with a league-high 417 shots taken. They are on a nine-game unbeaten streak, earning 15 points in 2026. However, a late equalizer from West Ham denied them a win in their last match. United has a historical advantage in this fixture, with 19 away victories against Everton, a Premier League record. Captain Bruno Fernandes continues to shine on the road, contributing to 10 goals in his last nine away games.
