Antoine Griezmann is likely moving to Major League Soccer this year, but Atletico Madrid may delay the transfer until the summer window.

Orlando City is in “advanced discussions” with Atletico regarding a deal for the forward, aiming to fill their designated player slot, as reported by The Athletic.

At present, there are “no agreements” in place, and Orlando is considering other options as well. The club’s sporting director, Ricardo Moreira, has traveled to Spain several times to negotiate, though “formal talks” have not yet occurred.

In recent years, MLS has become a popular choice for former LaLiga players, with Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and Luis Suarez now playing for Inter Miami.

Griezmann’s potential move to MLS may be on hold amid transfer discussions

Griezmann appears interested in moving to Florida, with AS reporting it as a “long-term dream” to play in the U.S.

However, Atletico has “no intention” of allowing the 34-year-old to leave before the season ends.

His relationship with the club and manager Diego Simeone remains “excellent,” but they plan to meet at the end of the season to discuss future options.

Atletico is currently competing on three fronts and is close to reaching the Copa del Rey final. They do not want to weaken their squad at this critical stage of the campaign.
