Manchester United’s official accounts reveal that dismissing Ruben Amorim could cost the club £16m.

Amorim was let go in January after just 14 months at the club. His time at Old Trafford was challenging, with the team finishing 15th in the Premier League for the 2024-25 season, marking their lowest position since 1974.

He also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham and was removed from his position after a disappointing start to his second season.

This week, Manchester United will release financial results for the six months ending December 31st, 2025, showing a profit of £32.6m.

However, the report to the New York Stock Exchange includes a note about an “event that occurred after the reporting period.” It mentions a provision of £15.9m, which represents the possible maximum payout to Amorim and his coaching staff.

Currently, Manchester United has not appointed a new permanent manager, with Michael Carrick serving as the interim manager for the remainder of the season. Carrick has performed well, winning five out of six Premier League matches, with one draw.
