Former Liverpool player Ian Rush believes the atmosphere at Anfield will support the team after a challenging Champions League draw.
Arne Slot’s team will take on Galatasaray in the Round of 16, a repeat of their earlier match in Istanbul where Liverpool lost 1-0. The Reds are also facing a tough path in the Champions League.
If Slot’s team makes it through, they could meet Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals, and potential opponents in the semi-finals include Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Atalanta.
In a statement to UEFA after the draw, Rush emphasized the unique advantage of playing at Anfield.
“Every match at this stage is a challenge. Galatasaray had a strong victory over Juventus,” he noted.
“They scored seven goals in two matches, so I expect there will be many goals in our game. Our advantage is that the second leg is at home. The atmosphere will be fantastic, and it will depend on the first match’s result.”
“The atmosphere at Anfield is unmatched, and hopefully, it will play a role in the outcome.”
“You have PSG, Chelsea, Man City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich – that side of the draw is tough, but if you want to win, you have to beat them all along the way.”
