Michael Carrick stated that Manchester United is still in a strong position despite their first loss during his interim management.

Manchester United fell to Newcastle with a score of 2-1 on Wednesday, as William Osula netted the winning goal in the final minute at St James’ Park.

Carrick’s team struggled and could not capitalize on Jacob Ramsey’s first-half red card for Newcastle. Despite having an extra player, the Red Devils failed to make an impact and found it hard to involve their attackers.

This was their first league loss since December, and Carrick mentioned the lessons to be learned as they aim for Champions League qualification.

“The issue was quality and performance; it wasn’t about character or desire,” he said. “It’s easy to say that after a loss, but credit goes to Newcastle; they deserved to win. It’s tough to admit, but we need to improve for the next match.”

Carrick also responded firmly to a journalist who questioned the team’s character following the defeat.

“We’ve lost one game. Sure, we didn’t play well, but overall, we’re still in a decent spot. This loss stings because we dislike losing, but we will be better for the next game.”
