Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has shared that he talked to Mikel Arteta after criticizing Arsenal for time-wasting.

Hurzeler expressed his frustration with Arsenal’s tactics following Brighton’s 1-0 loss to the team on March 4th.

After the match, he stated that Brighton was the only side trying to play properly and accused Arsenal of using unfair strategies.

“I was proud of how we played,” Hurzeler said. “It felt like only one team was genuinely trying to play football today.”

“I’m not a manager who wants to win by those means; I aim to develop players. I want them to continue improving and playing football. While all teams might waste time, there should be limits set by the Premier League. Right now, it feels like they have none.”

Hurzeler’s comments sparked significant reactions, and he mentioned he spoke with Arteta to explain his perspective. Although he stands by his views, he acknowledged feeling ‘emotional’ after the match.

“I really respect what Arsenal has achieved this season and the way Arteta and his team work. I would congratulate them if they win the Premier League,” he added.

“My goal wasn’t to upset anyone, but I still believe there are issues that need addressing regarding time-wasting. We need clear regulations.”

“I texted him to express my respect for everyone at Arsenal. If they win the Premier League, they absolutely deserve it. However, the situation made me emotional, and I stand by my beliefs.”

“It caused quite a stir, but it’s essential to hold onto your views. I assured Mikel of my respect for him. There’s nothing that should come between us, and we’ll move forward.”
