Bruno Fernandes has stated that his main goal is to help Manchester United finish in the top spots this season, not to achieve personal records.
He hit a milestone by reaching his 100th assist for the club during the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford, where he assisted two goals.
With these assists, Fernandes has recorded 16 assists in the Premier League this season, marking his best career total and setting a new club record, surpassing David Beckham’s previous mark that stood for 26 years.
Fernandes is now only four assists away from matching the all-time single-season Premier League record, with eight games remaining in the season.
The 31-year-old acknowledged that while reaching a century of assists is significant, his main focus is on the club’s success. “I’m pleased because I did it serving my teammates. Helping others score brings me joy,” he told Sky Sports.
“This is a big achievement for me. The main goal is to finish in the top spots at season end.”
After the win that placed Manchester United three points ahead of Villa and solidified their position in third place, Fernandes commented: “This victory was crucial against a direct rival. We were tied on points, so gaining this advantage is beneficial. We needed this win after our last game, and we performed well today.”
“Every game in the Premier League is tough. Villa are well-organized and have a solid plan. Their players can make a significant impact.”
“Following our strategy was key, and we executed it well. We anticipated their high defensive line, and it required precise timing for our runs. It may seem simple, but it’s challenging. We got it right today and secured the win.”
