Michael Carrick has raised questions about a contract extension for Casemiro at Manchester United, even with the midfielder playing a vital role in the team’s recent success.
Casemiro announced in January that he plans to leave the club when his contract ends this summer. The 34-year-old’s deal is set to expire at the end of the season, and both sides have agreed to part ways.
Despite this, the Brazilian has been key to the club’s rise into the Champions League spots.
He scored his seventh goal of the Premier League season during the 3-1 victory against Aston Villa, and fans chanted ‘one more year, one more year, Casemiro’ at the end of the match.
In the post-match press conference, Carrick was asked if there might be a change regarding the midfielder’s future.
“It’s hard to say. When a decision is made, it makes things clearer for everyone involved,” he said.
“His impact has been fantastic, especially since I joined and started working with him. He has made significant contributions in important moments. The connection with the supporters at the end was special, and I think he appreciated that.”
