Wales coach Craig Bellamy has warned his team to be cautious of Bosnia’s veteran striker Edin Dzeko ahead of their World Cup play-off match this month.

Dzeko, who will soon turn 40, will lead Bosnia-Herzegovina in the play-off as he aims for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.

He is known for his goal-scoring ability, holding a record of 72 goals in 146 appearances for his national team. Currently, he plays for Schalke in Bundesliga 2, where he has scored five goals in seven matches.

Bellamy, who played alongside Dzeko at Manchester City, highlighted the trouble he can cause on the field.

“While he’s not the fastest player, his ability to connect with teammates and his game awareness remain exceptional,” mentioned Bellamy. “He’s still performing well, making him a real threat. Our goal is to keep Bosnia away from our penalty area since that’s when he becomes most effective.”

“The less time he spends near our goal, the better for us, so we need to keep him as far away from our box as possible.”
