Bernardo Silva has expressed confidence in Erling Haaland’s ability to regain his form at Manchester City but noted he ‘wouldn’t be shocked’ if the forward is left out against Real Madrid.

Since the start of the year, Haaland has scored only four goals in his last 18 matches across all competitions.

The decline in the Norwegian’s performance has raised concerns for the team, and he failed to score in last week’s 3-0 loss to Real Madrid.

City will face Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie tomorrow, needing a strong performance to keep their European hopes alive.

When asked about Haaland ahead of the match, Bernardo said he would always ‘prefer to have Erling’ in the team but will support the manager’s choices.

“We wouldn’t be surprised by any decision, as it’s not our place to judge the manager’s choices. He’s paid well to make those calls,” the City captain stated at a press conference.

“We have a large squad, and anyone is ready to play. Erling is crucial for us, especially in important games. However, we have great players in every position.”

“No one is irreplaceable. I would obviously prefer to have Erling because his presence on the pitch usually means goals, and we need to score tomorrow.”

“We’ve played without Erling when he was injured and managed those situations.”
