Micky van de Ven has responded to claims that Tottenham players aren’t invested in the club due to upcoming transfers.
Tottenham is facing a difficult season, sitting just above the relegation zone in the Premier League and close to being eliminated from the UEFA Champions League.
The team will face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night for the second leg of their last-16 tie after a 5-2 loss in the first leg.
However, Spurs recently snapped a six-game losing streak, the longest in their history, earning a hard-fought draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
Van de Ven believes this performance shows that the players are still committed, refuting claims that some are preoccupied with leaving the club this summer.
“I’ve seen these things online, but I don’t pay much attention to it,” he said at the pre-match press conference. “Journalists make statements, but it’s baffling to think players don’t care about the situation we’re in.”
“It’s not true that anyone would be in the dressing room saying, ‘I’m leaving, so I won’t focus on what’s happening now.’”
“It doesn’t impact me. Such claims are pure nonsense. Everyone is focused on what’s coming next.”
Van de Ven added: “Recently, there was a report about a player stating he doesn’t care because he’s leaving. It’s frustrating because it feels fabricated, and fans might start to believe it.”
“These rumors create more problems since fans may doubt our commitment, but everyone involved—players and staff—cares deeply about improving our current situation.”
“When reports suggest that players don’t care anymore, it’s frustrating for us.”
