Liam Rosenior acknowledged that Chelsea aimed to perform better following a significant defeat to PSG that ended their European hopes.

Chelsea exited the Champions League after losing 8-2 on aggregate to the reigning champions. In the first match, Chelsea held their own before conceding two late goals, which gave PSG a solid lead they were unable to recover from.

After already being down 5-2 from the first leg, Chelsea fell behind early in the return fixture when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia capitalized on an error by Mamadou Sarr. Bradley Barcola scored before halftime, making it 2-0 for PSG, and Senny Mayulu added another goal in the second half.

Boos echoed around Stamford Bridge at the final whistle, and Rosenior expressed disappointment in the team’s performance.

“We obviously wanted to compete more than we did. Credit to PSG for their excellent possession play in both matches; they deserved to progress,” he said.

“Football relies on flow and momentum. If you allow the opponents to gain that without much effort, they become more confident.”

“Looking back, during the first six minutes, we were in their half, but then they scored. I believe Mamadou (Sarr) is a talented young player, but mistakes like these must be learned from. There’s no tactical error here; it’s just an individual mistake, and Kvaratskhelia capitalized on it.”

“That goal gave them confidence, and Barcola’s long-range shot added to their lead. I don’t recall them having many chances before that.”

“We must learn to be more precise at this top level and ensure our defense stays strong. We fell short in both matches, which is why we are out of the tournament.”
