Unai Emery stated that Aston Villa is pleased with their recent progress, but the club has bigger goals.

Villa is set to play Lille in the Europa League tonight for a chance to reach the quarter-finals. The first leg in France ended without a goal.

This marks the third consecutive season that Emery’s team is competing in Europe, and they have a history with Lille, having beaten them on penalties in the Conference League quarter-finals last season.

Aston Villa is currently among the top four teams in the Premier League, reflecting a notable improvement under Emery’s leadership. Before the match, he emphasized the need for the club to celebrate its accomplishments while striving for more success in Europe.

“We are playing the second leg in the last 16 of the Europa League. When I arrived here just over three years ago, this seemed like a distant dream. Achieving it in such a short time is remarkable,” he said.

“Even though we’ve lost our last three matches, being fourth in the league is a significant achievement compared to three years ago.”

“We hold ourselves to high standards, which can sometimes lead to frustration, both for the team and the supporters. But I prefer that approach. I want us to continuously improve and strive for the level we have now.”

“I genuinely appreciate our journey and our approach, though it can be frustrating when we don’t meet our goals. Overall, we should feel proud of what we’ve accomplished. My ambition remains strong, and competing in Europe holds great importance for me and Aston Villa.”
