Robert Lewandowski scored two goals as Barcelona defeated Newcastle United 7-2 in the Champions League this week.
The Spanish team advanced to the quarter-finals with a convincing victory over their Premier League rivals, featuring a double from their star striker.
Lewandowski has reached 109 goals in the Champions League, ranking third after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He has now set a new record by scoring against his 41st different opponent in the tournament.
Newcastle was the 41st team to be scored on by Lewandowski, surpassing Messi’s previous record of 40 teams.
Benfica has been his most common opponent in the Champions League, with Lewandowski scoring nine times against the Portuguese club. He has also netted six goals against Real Madrid, including a memorable four-goal match in the semi-finals in 2013.
