Thomas Tuchel has shared his reasons for bringing back Manchester United defender Harry Maguire to the England squad.

Maguire will join the team for upcoming friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan later this month. He has represented England 67 times since his debut, but last played for the national team in September 2024.

This marks the 33-year-old’s first selection by Tuchel since he took over as coach.

When asked about Maguire during the squad announcement, Tuchel noted that the defender’s contributions to Manchester United’s recent improved performance caught his attention.

“Manchester United have been performing well since Michael Carrick took charge, and Harry, along with Kobbie (Mainoo), has played a significant role,” he stated.

“This is the last training camp before our trip to the US, so it’s a final chance for me to evaluate new players and learn about their fit in the team. While Harry is not new to playing for England, it’s my first time working with him in this camp.”

“I want to watch how he connects with other teammates, observe him during practice, and gauge his skills to make informed decisions.”
