On Friday, March 20, midfielder Andi Sullivan made her return to the field in a Washington Spirit jersey after 17 months away. Her absence was due to an ACL tear suffered in October 2024 and the birth of her first child in the summer of 2025.
Sullivan’s comeback occurred during an eventful match against Racing Louisville FC. The home team initially led 2-0, but the Spirit rallied in the second half to secure a draw.
Her experience is a valuable addition to a team that recently lost key player Croix Bethune to the Kansas City Current just before the season started. Since joining the Washington Spirit in 2018, Sullivan has played 103 matches and scored 6 goals. She also has experience with the national team, earning 52 caps and scoring two goals.
In a February interview with Area Sports Network, Sullivan shared her excitement about returning to play. “It’s been a long journey, but I’m really excited to be back on the field with my teammates,” she said in an Instagram reel. “I really missed being out on the field. It’s been a lot of learning about myself and life, and I’m eager to learn more on the field.”
