Hugo Ekitike left the game due to injury during Liverpool‘s loss to Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.
The striker was injured after a collision with James Milner just two minutes into the match at the Amex Stadium, holding his left leg in discomfort.
Though he received treatment and returned to play, he had to go off again shortly after. Curtis Jones replaced him in the eighth minute.
Liverpool struggled without Ekitike, unable to create many clear chances, while Brighton secured a win with two goals from Danny Welbeck. Milos Kerkez equalized in the first half after taking advantage of a mistake by Lewis Dunk.
Hugo Ekitike injury update after early substitution
After the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot shared an update, stating that while losing Ekitike is significant, the injury may not be severe.
“It was a big blow for us that one of our two strikers, Hugo and Alex, couldn’t play together. Losing him after just a couple of minutes is tough, especially after how well he performed on Wednesday,” he told TNT Sports.
He continued, “The players and fans know that with only eight games left to qualify for the Champions League, every game missed is disappointing. His inability to help the team is just unfortunate. It’s not a long-term injury, which is a relief, but it still affects us both.”
