The North Carolina Courage and NJ/NY Gotham FC ended in a 0-0 draw on Saturday night, showcasing strong defensive skills from both sides. After winning their opening matches, each team earned one point in Matchweek 2.

The highlight of the evening for Gotham and U.S. women’s national team supporters was the return of defender Tierna Davidson. She had been out for almost the entire previous season due to an ACL tear suffered just three games into the 2025 NWSL season on March 28 against Houston. This marked her second ACL injury. The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup champ and 2024 Olympic gold medalist took the field for the first time since her injury, coming on in the 61st minute. While Gotham’s defense has been solid, Davidson’s return is a boost for the team.

This match featured two top goalkeepers in the NWSL: Gotham’s Ann-Katrin Berger and North Carolina’s Kailen Sheridan. Both goalkeepers have unique strengths and are skilled with their feet, but they faced limited challenges as their defensive units performed well. Sheridan also achieved a milestone, playing her 15,000th NWSL regular season minute in just her second game with North Carolina after joining the team in the offseason.
