Manchester City player Nico O’Reilly expressed his excitement after scoring both goals in the club’s 2-0 Carabao Cup final victory over Arsenal.
City secured their first trophy of the season at Wembley, overcoming the Premier League leaders. After a tense first half, Pep Guardiola’s team took control in the second half, with O’Reilly’s quick double leading to their ninth League Cup title.
O’Reilly, celebrating his 21st birthday, took advantage of a mistake by Kepa Arrizabalaga to score the first goal an hour into the game. He then added a second just four minutes later, heading in from a cross by Matheus Nunes.
This marks a significant season for the young player, who has now netted 10 goals across all competitions.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling. Winning a final against such a strong team is great for us. We need to build on this success; it will boost our momentum,” he said in a Sky Sports interview.
“I couldn’t believe the fans cheering when I scored. It’s a wonderful feeling and a fantastic way to celebrate my birthday weekend.”
“My family came to watch today, and I know they’re thrilled. I can’t wait to celebrate with them.”
“I’ve always played in midfield and looked to score goals. Bringing this to the senior level feels great and adds to my game,” he added.
