Manchester United is monitoring Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes as the summer transfer window approaches.

Gomes is one of several players being considered to strengthen the club’s midfield, especially as Wolves face a likely drop to a lower division.

While the Red Devils have other priorities, Sky Sports reports that Gomes is on their radar. The Brazilian is currently leading the Premier League in tackles won and is seen as a hardworking player who has excelled under tough conditions.

Gomes is viewed as a budget-friendly choice compared to higher-profile targets like Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle. There will be competition for the 25-year-old, who has represented Brazil 10 times, from various clubs in Europe. Despite this, he has expressed a strong admiration for the Premier League.

“I always dreamed about playing in the Premier League, and when I got here, it exceeded my expectations. It’s truly amazing and magical,” he said on the Wolves website.

“Moving to the Premier League isn’t easy for anyone, especially when coming from a quieter league. Here, the game is much faster and more attacking, but solid defense is also essential.

“Everyone needs time to adapt, and that adjustment period is completely normal for the Premier League.”
