Paolo Di Canio is known for one of the best goals in Premier League history.

His amazing goal against Wimbledon is a highlight of the league, showcasing talent that wows fans even after two decades.

Di Canio was a dynamic forward who could change the outcome of matches. He left a mark at every club he played for.

Born in a working-class area of Rome, Di Canio grew up supporting Lazio. He joined the club as a teenager in 1985 and quickly made a name for himself, scoring a memorable goal in the Derby della Capitale against AS Roma.

He later moved to Juventus and won a UEFA Cup medal but struggled to find a regular spot in the team during a successful period in Serie A.

A brief stint at Napoli led to a standout goal against AC Milan before he joined Milan, where he won the league in two seasons. However, he had conflicts with manager Fabio Capello over playing time.

Looking for a fresh start, Di Canio moved to Celtic, who were seeking success after eight seasons without a league title. He made an immediate impact, scoring 15 goals in 37 matches, earning the SPFA Player of the Year award.

His career was filled with memorable goals and controversies. The Celtic fans embraced his hard work and flair, but his time in Glasgow was short-lived as he sought a new contract or a move.

Eventually, he transferred to Sheffield Wednesday for a club-record £4.2 million, quickly justifying the fee with impressive performances, including scoring 14 league goals in his first season.

One of his notable strikes came against Bolton, where he danced through defenders before scoring in a 5-0 win.

His goals helped keep Wednesday safe from relegation, including a key goal against Newcastle that showcased his skill.

This partnership with Benito Carbone briefly lifted the team’s spirits, moving them up the table after a slow start.

Di Canio showcased his abilities with goals against Everton, including one late in the season during an exciting counter-attack.

His agility allowed him to avoid defenders and finish with ease, demonstrating why he was regarded so highly.

However, his temper occasionally overshadowed his talent. An incident against Arsenal resulted in an infamous red card, where he pushed the referee after an on-pitch clash, leading to an 11-game suspension and ending his time at Wednesday.

Despite this, West Ham took a chance on him, signing him for £1.5 million. Manager Harry Redknapp praised his skills, stating that he could do things few players could.

During his four years at Upton Park, Di Canio became a role model for younger players like Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand. He helped the team achieve a record fifth-place finish in the 1998/99 season.

In his best season, he was the club’s top scorer with 16 goals, including two memorable goals against Arsenal, with one being a brilliant flick before finding the net.

That season was also when he scored the unforgettable goal against Wimbledon, remembered as one of the Premier League’s greatest.

More than two decades later, it hasn’t been surpassed in terms of style and execution.

Beyond the iconic Wimbledon goal, Di Canio had memorable moments, including scoring twice in a crucial match against Chelsea in 2002/03.

He played a significant role in helping West Ham avoid relegation that season, but ultimately, the team could not maintain its Premier League status.

After leaving West Ham, he joined Charlton for a year before returning to Italy, ending his career with Lazio and Cisco Roma.

Di Canio is remembered as a captivating player, with a talent for spectacular moments that few others have matched in the Premier League.

His passionate and fiery personality is part of what makes him a memorable figure in football history.
