Nico Schlotterbeck will extend his contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2031, putting an end to transfer rumors.

The centre-back was rumored to be leaving Dortmund as he approaches the final year of his existing deal.

Liverpool, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich expressed interest in signing the Dortmund vice-captain, with Liverpool looking for a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk as a left-sided centre-back.

Nonetheless, Schlotterbeck is expected to reject offers from other clubs to renew his contract. This new agreement will provide the 26-year-old with a pay increase and grant him the longest active contract at Westfalenstadion.

BILD reports that the contract will contain a release clause estimated at €60 million (£51.8 million), which will be activated in 2027.

This could lead Liverpool to revisit their interest as Van Dijk’s contract at Anfield will also be up that summer, when he will be nearing 36 years old.
