The Netherlands and Norway will compete in an international friendly on Friday as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup.
Ronald Koeman’s team had a strong World Cup qualifying campaign, remaining unbeaten and averaging over three goals per game while conceding only four. They secured their tournament spot with a 4-0 win against Lithuania in November.
Netherlands news
The Netherlands are facing several injury challenges during this international break. Memphis Depay is the latest player to withdraw due to a thigh issue. Koeman had counted on Depay as his first-choice striker, prompting a change in the team’s attack for the match against Norway.
Other absentees include Crysencio Summerville, who was set for his first cap, and players like Robin Roefs, Matthijs de Ligt, Jurrien Timber, Noa Lang, and Frenkie de Jong.
On a positive note, Jan Paul van Hecke returns from an international suspension and is likely to be included in the starting lineup. Additionally, promising AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit has received his first call-up to the senior squad and aims to impress Koeman.
With Depay out, in-form Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey has a chance to play after scoring a late winner in the recent Tyne-Wear derby against Newcastle. However, Donyell Malen might also be chosen if Koeman wants a different setup in the forward line.
Netherlands predicted lineup
Possible Netherlands starting XI:Â Verbruggen; Dumfries, Van Dijk, Van de Ven, Ake; Gravenberch, Schouten; Reijnders, Gakpo; Malen, Brobbey
When will the match kick off?
The match is scheduled to start at 7:45 pm BST on Friday, March 27.
