The former forward is very disappointed that his country has missed the World Cup again.

Gattuso couldn’t change Italy’s pattern of unsuccessful World Cup qualifying campaigns.

Details: The well-known ex-Italy striker, 51-year-old Alessandro Del Piero, expressed his feelings after the Azzurri missed out on the 2026 World Cup by losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Del Piero believes the current Italian national team has seriously declined:

“Italy has become a joke in the football world. Missing three World Cups in a row is simply unacceptable. How can a country like ours miss an entire series of World Cups? As four-time world champions, we haven’t scored at the World Cup for 20 years. We used to have top players, but today’s team is quite average,” Del Piero said.

The last time Italy participated in the World Cup was in 2014, where they also had a tough time, finishing third in their group with Costa Rica, England, and Uruguay and not advancing.
