Manuel Ugarte is getting attention from AS Monaco as questions about his future at Manchester United arise.

The Uruguay international is seen as a potential target for the Ligue 1 team, with initial inquiries already made.

Journalist Ben Jacobs mentioned on The United Stand, “There is again interest in Ugarte to go to France […] Monaco are one of the clubs that made an inquiry about him.”

This news follows increasing speculation about Ugarte’s position at Old Trafford.

United signed the midfielder in summer 2024 from Paris Saint-Germain, but his time at the club has been mixed.

Even though he has played over 65 games, his performances have often faced criticism.

Finding consistency has been challenging.

Interest from other clubs has already surfaced.

Recently, United turned down bids from both Newcastle United and Aston Villa, indicating a market exists for the 24-year-old despite his difficulties.

The situation is changing, however.

Kobbie Mainoo is about to sign a new contract, and the club is expected to add more midfielders this summer.

Sandro Tonali remains a key target, and more midfield signings could follow.

This would likely push Ugarte further down the lineup.

While his skills bring ball-winning and defensive solidity, there are doubts about his ability to influence games and manage possession at top levels.

A transfer to Monaco, which recently signed former Manchester United player Paul Pogba, might benefit all involved.

The French team is known for developing players and giving them regular playing time, which Ugarte may need to regain his form.

For Manchester United, selling him could help reshape the midfield and create room for new arrivals.

Timing is crucial.

If more offers come in, United might be more willing to consider negotiations than in past windows.

As it stands, Monaco’s interest indicates that Ugarte’s future may be away from Old Trafford.
