“Bono Was the First to Tell Me” – Koulibaly Discusses CAF AFCON Title Decision
Senegal’s captain, Kalidou Koulibaly, shared his thoughts on the controversial choice by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to give the Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco.
In a recent interview, Koulibaly explained that Morocco’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, known as Bono, was the first to inform him of the decision.
“Bono was the first to tell me about the decision,” Koulibaly said. “He got a call and joked, ‘We’re the champions now, not you.’ That’s when I later saw the CAF announcement.”
He added: “I didn’t believe it at first and felt shocked, but I told myself I had to focus on the team because we had a match the next day.” He noted, “This didn’t affect my relationship with Yassine Bounou. I have a great relationship with him, and I moved on with my life after the surprising news.”
