The well-known Brazilian continues to encounter difficult situations.

Neymar needs to be more careful with his words.

Details: As reported by DiarioAS, 34-year-old Santos midfielder Neymar has become involved in a sexism controversy after a Brazilian Serie A match against Remo.

The issue arose when Neymar expressed strong frustration with the referee’s calls during a post-match interview, referring to head referee Savio Sampaio as “Chico,” a term seen as offensive in Brazilian Portuguese.

It was later revealed that Neymar meant “acordou de Chico,” which translates to “woke up on the wrong side of the bed” or “had a bad day.” However, this phrase can also be informally linked to a woman’s menstrual cycle, giving it a more contentious interpretation.

According to CNN Brazil, the word “chico” can also mean “pig” or “dirty,” terms that historically described menstruation in women due to negative associations, adding to the controversy.

Neymar is facing criticism from various women’s groups, who feel his remarks demonstrate disrespect towards women.

No response from Neymar regarding these allegations has been made public yet.

Reminder: Neymar also got involved in a fight with a Remo player during the match.
