Brendan McSorley’s header in the 95th minute helped St. Louis SC earn a 1-1 draw against New York City FC on Saturday. He scored with a long ball from Lukas MacNaughton, marking only the second time St. Louis found the net this season.

This goal prevented NYCFC from achieving its third victory in four home matches. Goalkeeper Roman Burki played a key role, making six saves, including a critical stop against Nicolas Fernandez just before McSorley’s goal.

Hannes Wolf opened the scoring for NYCFC in the 50th minute with an assist from Maxi Moralez. This marked Wolf’s second goal of the season, while Moralez picked up his fifth assist, tying him with New England’s Luca Langoni. NYCFC’s home record improved to 2-1-1 after moving from Yankee Stadium to Citi Field.

St. Louis entered the match following a 3-1 victory over New England but struggled offensively until late in the game. Keaton Parks attempted to start the scoring early with a volley in the third minute, and Tayvon Gray nearly scored three minutes later, but Burki saved the close-range shot.

Marcel Hartel, St. Louis’ top scorer with two goals, nearly gave his team the lead twice in the first half. His first shot in the 26th minute was saved by NYCFC’s Matt Freese, who recorded two saves. Hartel tested Freese again in the 39th minute but couldn’t break through.

Agustin Ojeda came close to extending NYCFC’s lead in the 63rd minute, but Burki stopped his attempt after a pass from Fernandez. Fernandez, tied for third in MLS with five goals, was held scoreless for only the second time in six matches.

Hartel had another chance in the 68th minute, but his shot went over the goal. St. Louis created several opportunities in the final moments before McSorley’s equalizer. Cedric Teuchart missed wide left in the 82nd minute after a pass from Jaziel Orozco, and Dante Polvara’s shot from the center in the 93rd minute sailed high.
