Anthony Markanich and Kelvin Yeboah each scored in the second half, leading Minnesota United to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday in Carson, California. This marks Minnesota’s first road win of the season.
Markanich netted his first goal of the season, while Yeboah scored his team-high third goal. With this win, Minnesota United (2-2-2, 8 points) has secured points in back-to-back matches following a heavy 6-0 defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps last month.
The team was missing forwards James Rodriguez (illness) and Julian Gressel (toe), along with defender Michael Boxall (groin) and midfielder Peter Stroud (quad).
Marco Reus scored for the Galaxy (1-3-2, 5 points), who were also without key forward Joseph Paintsil (hamstring) and defender Jakob Glesnes (calf).
Goalkeeper Drake Callender made six saves for Minnesota, while JT Marcinkowski had one save for Los Angeles.
The first half ended without goals, but Minnesota took a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute. Markanich scored after receiving a long pass from Joaquin Pereyra, getting past the Galaxy defense and beating Marcinkowski in a one-on-one.
Reus equalized for the Galaxy in the 57th minute, scoring following a smooth passing play from Gabriel Pec and Joao Klauss. After his initial shot was blocked by Callender, Reus scored off the rebound with his left foot.
In the 67th minute, Minnesota regained the lead after a Galaxy turnover. Tomas Chancalay moved toward the end line on the left and delivered a pass through five defenders to Yeboah for the goal. Chancalay recorded assists on both Minnesota goals, marking his first contributions since joining the club.
