Pep Lijnders stated that Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva is irreplaceable.
Silva is expected to leave Manchester City when his contract ends this summer after nine seasons with the club. Reports confirmed that the Portugal international has informed City of his decision.
Since joining from Monaco in 2017, the 31-year-old has won six Premier League titles and one Champions League, playing a key role in the team’s success under Pep Guardiola.
After City’s FA Cup quarter-final victory against Liverpool, assistant coach Lijnders mentioned that finding a replacement for Silva is not possible.
“You cannot just replace a player with another similar player because they don’t exist,” he remarked.
“Bernardo Silva is unique in how he controls the game, moves, receives the ball, leads, and identifies solutions. All these attributes are special.
“When he doesn’t play, it’s clear he is missed, and that’s just in one match. Think about a whole season.
“However, every good story has to end, and I hope he enjoys his remaining time here—there are only six weeks left—and has a fitting farewell.
“He truly deserves all the recognition.”
