Defender Malcom Bokele has clarified his decision to represent Cameroon at the international level.

Bokele stated that he identifies with both Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, he stressed that his choice to join the Indomitable Lions was a thoughtful one. He mentioned that he had not received any communication from the DRC before deciding on Cameroon. Despite his commitment to the Cameroonian team, Bokele has not forgotten his roots in the Democratic Republic of Congo and has voiced his support for the Leopards as they prepare for the World Cup.

I want to be clear that I have never been contacted to represent the DRC. I feel equally Cameroonian and Congolese, and both identities are important to me. Today, I am proud to play for Cameroon and fully support this choice, made with conviction and sincerity. This does not lessen my respect and affection for the Congo. I will be among their biggest supporters and wish them success in the World Cup.
