World football is poised for a significant transformation as FIFA is reportedly developing a protocol allowing national leagues to host one match per season outside their home countries. This initiative, as highlighted by The Guardian, seeks to enhance the globalization of football, enabling fans worldwide to experience Premier League matches in their local regions.

The implementation of this protocol will necessitate a complex approval system. Each proposal to relocate a fixture must receive backing from the national associations of the clubs involved, their confederations, and the football authorities of the host country. Only after these approvals will the application proceed to FIFA for a final decision.

This regulatory framework aims to address challenges faced by clubs such as Barcelona and Villarreal, as well as AC Milan and Como, which encountered obstacles in organizing matches abroad last year due to existing ambiguities in regulations.

FIFA plans to finalize and launch this protocol by the beginning of the next season. Further discussions regarding the specifics of the plan are scheduled to take place at an upcoming working group meeting.
