Sean Dyche, the former manager of Burnley, Watford, Everton, and Nottingham Forest, has expressed strong criticism of current Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany. In a recent interview, Dyche highlighted concerns regarding Kompany’s heavy spending during his tenure at Burnley without achieving desired results, which ultimately left the club in debt.
Dyche reflected on his own experience, stating, “In 2014, I spent about £9 million at Burnley and we got relegated from the Premier League with 33 points. Kompany got 24 points after spending £127 million and then landed the Bayern job. Come on, I just don’t get how this works. I wish I could do that. I wish I could leave a club £127 million in debt and then get the Bayern job.” This comment underscores Dyche’s skepticism about the fairness of Kompany’s career progression.
Dyche managed Burnley from 2012 to 2022, overseeing 152 matches, with a record of 152 wins, 114 draws, and 159 defeats. In contrast, Kompany took charge of Bayern in the summer of 2024, leading the team to win the Bundesliga and reach the Champions League semi-finals, adding an ironic twist to Dyche’s earlier remarks.
