FC Barcelona were eliminated in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League by Inter Milan. Both Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski reflected on the defeat.
Barcelona’s 2024-25 UEFA Champions League journey came to an end on Tuesday. In a dramatic match in Italy against Inter Milan, they came within seconds of reaching the final but ultimately lost 4-3 in extra time. After the game, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski shared emotional messages.
“We gave everything, this year it wasn’t meant to be,” Yamal began in a post shared to his official Instagram account, along with a series of black-and-white photos from the tie against Inter Milan. “We’ll be back, have no doubt ‘CULERS,’” he added, addressing the club’s fans.
Lamine made it clear that winning the Champions League remains a top goal for him and his teammates. “We won’t stop until we put this club where it belongs—at the very top,” said the Spanish winger. “I’ll keep my promise and bring it to Barcelona. We won’t stop until we achieve it.”
Despite the heartbreak of such a painful elimination from Europe’s top competition, Yamal emphasized that the season is not over and there’s still a major challenge ahead. “Sunday is another final and we all have to be together,” said the young star, referencing the upcoming clash against Real Madrid that could be decisive in the La Liga title race. “Visca el Barça!”

Lamine’s Instagram post concluded with a motivational quote placed over a final image: “If I fall, I will rise again because, when I had nothing, I gain it with my hard work and passion. So it doesn’t matter how many times I fall, I still rise up like a warrior.”
Lewandowski’s words after Barcelona’s UCL exit
Although Tuesday’s match against Inter Milan was one of the most important of the season, Robert Lewandowski played just over 30 minutes due to lingering issues with his left leg that have affected him in recent weeks. Still, the Polish striker shared a message on his official Instagram account following the defeat.
“We gave it our all and came so close,” wrote Lewandowski, accompanied by a broken heart emoji. “Proud of this journey, and so grateful for your support culers! There’s more to come, and we’ll keep pushing forward, together!” Alongside the caption, he posted photos from the match and of Barcelona supporters.
Barcelona can still complete a strong season
The UEFA Champions League was Barcelona’s ultimate goal this season, particularly given that it’s been 10 years since their last title while rivals Real Madrid have lifted the trophy multiple times in that span. But that doesn’t mean the 2024-25 campaign is a failure.
This season, Hansi Flick’s team won both the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey—defeating Real Madrid in both finals—which highlights the significance of those achievements. They also currently sit atop the La Liga standings with 79 points, four ahead of their eternal rivals.
This Sunday, Barcelona and Real Madrid will face off at the Estadi Olímpic Lluis Companys in Catalunya for Matchday 35 of the league. With a win—or even a draw—Flick’s side would take a major step toward clinching the title.
