A rather puzzling decision has emerged ahead of the World Cup.
Another scandal has erupted as reports indicate that five players from the Iraq national team have been denied visas to participate in the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, according to NTV Iraq.
The Iraqi team’s matches were scheduled to take place in the United States, but these plans are now in jeopardy unless the visa issues are resolved. Among those denied entry is 24-year-old striker Ali Al-Hamadi, who currently plays for England’s Luton Town.
Notably, former US President Donald Trump previously mentioned that representatives from certain participating countries might encounter challenges in obtaining US visas in the lead-up to the World Cup.
In the tournament, Iraq is set to compete in Group I alongside formidable teams France, Norway, and Senegal.
