The Portuguese Eagles are actively working to retain their head coach, José Mourinho, amid interest from Real Madrid. The Lisbon-based Benfica management has reportedly offered Mourinho a new contract that is significantly more lucrative than his current one.

According to DiarioSport, Benfica President Rui Costa has personally reached out to Mourinho to present the new agreement, emphasizing the club’s appreciation for the legendary manager’s contributions. The proposal aims to deter any intentions Mourinho may have to join Real Madrid, where he has emerged as the top candidate for the managerial position.

Mourinho, who has been at the helm of Benfica since September 2025, has overseen 44 matches this season, achieving 26 wins, 10 draws, and 8 defeats. Currently, his contract with the club is set to run until the summer of 2027.
