Napoli are taking serious steps to prepare for the possibility of Antonio Conte leaving his coaching position. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the club has made Massimiliano Allegri, the main candidate to replace Conte, a two-year contract offer worth €6 million per season.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly increased his communication with Allegri in recent days. De Laurentiis wants to ensure that the club is prepared in case Conte leaves the Stadio Maradona.

Last season, Napoli performed poorly in defending their title, having won it for the first time in 33 years under Luciano Spalletti. Changes in coaching, from Rudi Garcia to Walter Mazzarri and finally Francesco Calzona, failed to improve the team’s performance, and they even failed to secure a position in the European leagues.

This prompted De Laurentiis to take a more proactive approach to planning for coaching succession. With his wealth of experience coaching big clubs such as Juventus and Milan, Allegri is the obvious choice to coach Partenopei.

Allegri has an interesting track record when it comes to replacing Conte. In 2014, he took over at Juventus after Conte’s shock resignation the day before the start of the 2014/15 pre-season.

He has won numerous titles with the teams he has coached. These include Serie A with Juventus (5) and AC Milan (1), the Coppa Italia with Juventus (5), and the Supercoppa Italiana with Juventus (2) and AC Milan (1).
