Following Inter Milan’s defeat to PSG, Simone Inzaghi joins the list of managers who have lost multiple finals in Champions League history.

Munich was the stage for a dominant performance by PSG against an Inter Milan side that never managed to find answers throughout the match. Once again, Simone Inzaghi walks away defeated in a Champions League final, placing him on the notable list of managers who have lost the tournament’s decisive match more than once.

Although this is the second time the Italian coach has been defeated in this crucial stage, other colleagues have surpassed him in this unfortunate streak—a ranking no one wants to be part of.

Fortunately for Inzaghi, two other coaches have had less luck in the UCL. One is his compatriot, and the other has a recent history in this historic tournament, with both having lost in the final on three occasions.

Which coaches have lost the most UEFA Champions League finals?

Although Inzaghi suffered his second defeat in these decisive stages after his team’s loss, two other coaches have been less fortunate than him. The first? A legend: Marcelo Lippi, with three lost finals. The other, more contemporary, is the German Jürgen Klopp, who has also lost three final games.

Lippi, one of the most influential Italian coaches in history, was defeated three times, all while managing Juventus. In the 1996-97 edition, he lost to Borussia Dortmund; in 1997-98, he was defeated by Real Madrid; and finally, in 2002-03, he lost on penalties against Milan.

Klopp, on the other hand, was a key figure with two different clubs. In the 2012-13 edition, he lost to Bayern Munich while managing Borussia Dortmund. In the 2018 final, now in charge of Liverpool, he lost 3-1 to Real Madrid — the same stage as in 2022, but with a different result: a 1-0 victory for the Spanish team.
