Ivory Coast has received official approval from FIFA to implement Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, marking a significant step towards modernizing its domestic football structure.
The introduction of VAR equipment is a crucial element in the country’s long-term strategy to enhance officiating standards and align its domestic league with international football practices. The system is slated for full integration into the local top-flight league starting in the 2026/27 season.
Prior to its official launch, VAR was tested live during the Ivory Coast FA Cup final, which featured a match between SOA and Korhogo.
