Cedric Kaze has discussed his relationship with former Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasredine Nabi, following Nabi’s departure from the club. Kaze, alongside his assistant Ben Youssef Khalil, took over from Nabi after the club opted to part ways with him.
There have been allegations that Kaze and Khalil conspired to have Nabi dismissed from the Soweto club, a claim which Kaze has denied. Earlier this week, Nabi and Khalil were let go by Amakhosi, despite having secured the team’s best finish in six years, placing third in the league.
In an appearance on 947’s MSW Sports show, Kaze acknowledged the complexities that arise during coaching changes, noting, “when the head coach is removed, there is always things that happen… that’s how the relationship gets, as you said ‘strained’.” He emphasized that he and Nabi have maintained a positive relationship despite the circumstances, although they have not been in contact since his departure.
Kaze clarified that he was with Nabi on his last day at the club, contradicting rumors suggesting their involvement in his dismissal. “He never shared that… we were together, we spent the day together, he said goodbye but there was no animosity about how he left at that time,” Kaze explained.
