Victor Osimhen has addressed the speculation regarding his absence from Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies, following comments made by Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle. The remarks raised questions and sparked considerable discussion among fans and media.
Coach Chelle suggested that Osimhen’s ongoing club situation was a factor in his absence after Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the Unity Cup final in London, where the Super Eagles secured their fourth title. This statement led to a flurry of speculation about the striker’s commitment to the national team.
In response, Osimhen clarified that he had a direct conversation with Chelle regarding the comments. In a statement released on Sunday, he expressed gratitude for the discussion and reaffirmed his dedication to representing Nigeria whenever called upon.
“I just had a phone call with Eric Chelle about the comments he made regarding me in his latest interview,” the striker said in a statement.
“Unfortunately, his words were taken out of context and blown out of proportion. He has great respect for Galatasaray, follows most of our matches, and never had any intention of creating controversy.”
The 27-year-old further emphasized his appreciation for the Super Eagles coach and sought to quell any speculation surrounding the matter.
“He’s a very good coach whom I hold in high regard, and I ask that the speculation surrounding this matter be disregarded.
“Thank you for your support.”
