Belgium-based defender Christian Akpan has received a last-minute call-up to Nigeria’s senior national team ahead of their international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
Head coach Eric Chelle is reportedly managing several absences within the squad, as some players are unable to join due to visa complications and other logistical challenges.
As preparations accelerate for the first match against Poland, which is set to take place in just days, Chelle has acted swiftly to bring in replacements.
At just 21 years old, Akpan has recently made his senior debut for Genk in the Belgian Pro League and may have the opportunity to earn his first cap for Nigeria if he is given playing time in the upcoming fixtures.
