A new management era has commenced for Villarreal, with the appointment of a fresh head coach. The club has successfully secured the services of a rival’s former coach to lead their squad.
Details: Villarreal announced today via their X social media page that 38-year-old Spanish coach Iñigo Pérez has been appointed as the new head coach. Pérez succeeds Marcelino, who departed after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract. The new manager has signed a three-year deal with Villarreal.
Pérez previously managed Rayo Vallecano, guiding the team to the Conference League final, where they were narrowly defeated by Crystal Palace with a score of 0-1. Despite Rayo’s interest in retaining him, Pérez chose not to renew his contract, allowing it to expire.
This season, Villarreal finished third in La Liga, securing their place in the 2026/27 Champions League.
