Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo has caused concern for Uruguay’s national team just before the World Cup begins in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. Reports from Diario SPORT indicate that Araújo experienced sudden muscle discomfort, prompting him to make a swift trip back to Spain for medical evaluation and treatment.

The Uruguayan Football Association has clarified that the journey was prearranged, and although Araújo will miss Monday’s team activities, there is no indication that his World Cup participation is at risk. The club medical staff in Barcelona, who are well-acquainted with his fitness requirements, are overseeing his care.

Araújo is expected to return to Montevideo on Tuesday to rejoin the squad led by Marcelo Bielsa. Following this, the team will depart for their training camp in Mexico.
