Manchester United is reportedly looking to strengthen its defense by signing a star defender this summer. The Premier League club has identified Cristian Romero, a 28-year-old Argentina international currently with Tottenham Hotspur, as a top transfer target.

According to prominent journalist Gastón Edul, Manchester United’s head coach Michael Carrick sees Romero as an ideal candidate to enhance the team’s defensive lineup due to his substantial experience and skill set.

Romero himself has expressed openness to the possibility of departing from Tottenham this summer. In the recent 2025/26 season, he made 32 appearances for Spurs, scoring six goals and providing four assists. His current contract with Tottenham extends until 2029, and Transfermarkt values him at approximately €45 million.
