Mohau Nkota has expressed his disappointment over missing the opportunity to participate in the upcoming World Cup with Bafana Bafana. The midfielder, currently playing for Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, is sidelined due to an injury that required surgical intervention.

In place of Nkota, Thapelo Maseko, who is based in Cyprus and previously played for Orlando Pirates, has been called up to the national squad. Maseko has been a part of Hugo Broos’ Bafana setup, contributing to the team’s preparations.

Nobody is more aware of this disappointment than Nkota himself, who took to social media to share his feelings. He stated, “I hardly know where to begin, but it hurts indescribably to have to miss the biggest tournament. I did everything I could to be fit for the World Cup. Unfortunately, injuries often strike at the most unfortunate times.”

Despite his absence, Nkota extended his best wishes to the team, saying, “I wish my team every success and will, of course, be supporting them every minute of the way! I’ll come back stronger—I promise. Thanks for the supportive messages.”

Bafana Bafana is set to face Mexico in their opening match on Thursday, which will kick off at 9 PM South African time.
