Former England defender Gary Neville believes that the national team’s style of play is rightfully built around Harry Kane.
“He is the star. You talk about England’s talented players, but we only have one true world-class player, and that is Harry Kane.”
“The entire squad that Thomas Tuchel has selected is completely centered around him in attack. The whole team is built around Kane. This entire tournament — a lot depends on him.”
“But the pressure? He won’t feel it. He is as rock-solid as they come. He is one of the ultimate professionals. You can’t break him. If we’re talking about England players who might get rattled by opponents at tournaments, it’s impossible with him. He is pure gold.”
“I don’t think he’ll wear himself out running around like crazy. England won’t press with Harry Kane, so the style of play will have to be a bit different. But there are plenty of strong players around him. The last thing you want is for Kane to be surrounded by players who can’t run.”
“They can all run; they are all young and energetic. Everything is set up for him. He is the leader in this team. How many world-class players has England had over the last 20 to 30 years? Truly world-class, there’s absolutely no doubt about him. He is one of them,” Neville stated.
