According to Correio da Manha, Joao Palhinha looks set for a return to Sporting after Bayern Munich reduced their asking price from €30m to €25m.
Tottenham want to keep the midfielder, who spent last season on loan at the Premier League club.
However, Palhinha is understood to favour a move back to Portugal and the club where he began his career.
Bayern are willing to sell as Palhinha is no longer part of their plans and remains one of the club’s higher earners.
Sporting view the 30-year-old as an ideal replacement for captain Morten Hjulmand, whose departure is increasingly expected.
