The Ivory Coast national football team has launched its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in strong fashion, securing a 1-0 victory over Ecuador on June 15. The tournament is co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Amad Diallo, who scored the winning goal, expressed the determination and aspirations of his teammates. The Ivorian winger remarked that this generation of players aims not only to participate but also to make a significant impact on the history of Ivorian football.
“We’ve come here to make history. It’s the first competition for every one of us. Since the match against France, we knew we were mentally prepared. We’re very happy with this victory! But there are still two matches to go and it doesn’t stop here,” Diallo stated, emphasizing the team’s focus and commitment.
The Elephants’ next challenge will be against Germany on June 20, followed by a match against Curaçao on June 25 to conclude the group stage.
